Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the performances such as anode potential and current efficiency of an Al-Zn alloy by adding Mg and a predetermined wt. ratio of Bi, Pb and Sn to the alloy so that the ratio of the total wt. of Bi, Pb and Sn to the Zn wt. is regulated to a predetermined value.
CONSTITUTION: In an alloy consisting of, by wt., Zn 2.5W6.0%, Bi 0.05W1.10%, Pb 0.03W0.75%, Sn 0.02W0.35%, Mg 0.3W1.5%, and the balance Al and inevitable impurities ≤0.30%, the wt. ratio of Bi:Pb:Sn in regulated to 4W2.5:2.5W 1.5:1, and the ratio of the total wt. of the three elements to the Zn wt. to 1W6:20. The resulting alloy has an anode potential baser than -Vvs, S.C.E and a current efficiency above 80%. The alloy does not contain harmful metals such as Hg and Cd, so a fear on environmental pollution is reduced.
