Abstract

PURPOSE: For an effective, small head loss treatment of utility water or waste water from a nuclear power plant, filter membrane layer of cation or anion exchanging fibers formed on filter support is used to pass such utility or waste water to remove ions and impurities, and used filter memberane layer is separated by using air and water.
CONSTITUTION: A precoat system including a filter tank 1, a precoat tank 7, and a precoat pump 8 is filled with water. An adequate amount of cation or anion exchange fibers having diameters of 2W200μ and length of twice the diameters is stepwisely added into the precoat tank 7 and mixed by stirring with the stirrer 14 to allow fibers to be entangled each other. This forms slurry. The slurry is sent through the pump 8 into the tank 1 to precoat the surface of filter element 4 with fibers. The separated water is returned to the tank 7. Water to be treated is introduced into the tank 1 through the inlet 5 and treated water is discharged from the outlet 6. To separate used filter membrane layer, water is removed from the tank 1, and pressurized mixture of pure water and air is charged into the tank 1 through the outlet 6. Then, pressurized pure water only is flowed through the same route into the tank 1 to remove the separated membrane layer from the valve V9.
