Abstract

PURPOSE: To allow slow and rapid acceleration to be performed smoothly by arranging a shutter valve which closes in idling or deceleration, in the intake passage of a part of cylinders of a multi-cylinder engine.
CONSTITUTION: In the state of an engine of which revolution number is below 1100rpm the intake passage 1 to an cylinder 3 among cylinders 3 and 4 of an engine E is closed by a shutter valve 7, and mixed gas is supplied only to the cylinder 4. In gentle acceleration, the output torque due to the cylinder 4 increases, and afterwards the output torque of the cylinder 3 increases. In rapid acceleration, throttle valves 5 and 6 open perfectly at a stretch due to the sharp stepping-in of an acceleration paedal. Then, the intake negative pressure decreases sharply, and a switch SW4 is turned ON by a diaphragm device 33, and an electromagnetic cut- off poppet valve 26 is switched, and the discharge pressure of an air pump 13 acts onto a diaphragm device 19, and a shutter valve 7 is perfectly opened immediately.
