Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve a stable characteristic of combustion by a method wherein a rotary valve is arranged at a subintake port which is opened or closed by a suction valve, then an overlapped value of the valve under a low rotational speed of the engine.
CONSTITUTION: Subsuction or intake port 5 is arranged at the cylinder head 1 in parallel with the main intake port 4. Subintake port 5 is opened at the valve seat 10 and a rotary valve 7 is arranged in the midway of the port. The subintake port 5 is abruptly opened with the intake valve 8 is moved downwardly, but the main suction or intake port 4 is not opened until the intake valve 8 is moved downwardly by a distance of H. The rotary valve 7 is closed only when the engine is operated in a range of low rotation.
