Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve intake efficiency, by mounting a rotary valve in an intake passage near an intake valve and opening the rotary valve and the intake valve at prescribed points of time, respectively, to make the corss-sectional area of the opening of the intake valve large from the beginning of suction process.
CONSTITUTION: A rotary valve 6 is mounted halfway in an intake passage 5 provided in the cylinder heat 2 of a four-cycle engine. The rotary valve 6 is located near an intake valve 3. A sucked mixture or air flows into a cylinder chamber 4 only when both the valves 3, 6 are opened at the same time. The intake valve 3 is interlocked with a crankshaft so that the valve 3 is almost fully opened at the end of exhaust process. The rotary valve 6 is interlocked with the crankshaft so that the valve 6 is opened just before the end of exhaust process. Since the intake valve 3 is quickly opened and closed because of the double action of both the valves 3, 6, the intake efficiency of the engine is improved.
