Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively reduce the amount of noxious components contained in exhaust gas of a four-cycle internal combustion engine, by forming swirl producing guide wall at the portion of combustion chamber wall near the exhaust valve, so that a portion of exhaust valve flows back into cyclinder with swirl at the time of valve overlap.
CONSTITUTION: In cylinder head 3, there are formed intake port 9 and exhaust port 10 respctively having intake valve 12 and exhaust valve 13, in the manner that they are communicated to combustion chamber 4. At the portion of combustion chamber wall near exhaust valve 13, there is formed swirl producing guide wall 14 for producing swirl of exhaust gas. That is, by the function of this swirl producing guide wall 14, a portion of exhaust gas flowing back into combustion chamber 4 produces swirl so that it is spread over the inner wall surface of combustion chamber 4.
