Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the fuel cousumption by setting the volume of air supplied to a combustion chamber through a sub-intake passage so as to be in 30% or less of the total volume of air supplied to the combustion chamber.
CONSTITUTION: In an intake stroke, a gas mixture is supplied to a combustion chamber 4 through a main intake passage 5, while the gas is sucked from and injected through a sub-intake passage 22, whereby the gas mixture becomes swirl-like. At this time, opening positious and areas of both entrance ends 22d, 22e of the sub-intake passage 22 are fixed in relation to an opening degree of a throttle velve 8d and the volume of air supplied through the sub-intake passage 22 is set in 30% or less of the total volume of air.
