Abstract
PURPOSE: To raise the efficiency of a supercharger, by providing a changeover valve which is opened or closed depending on the rotational frequency of an engine, in a communication passage which connects the main intake port and supercharging port of a combustion chamber to each other and by enabling the shutting-off of the upstream part of a supercharging passage.
CONSTITUTION: When an engine runs slowly, a changeover valve 21 in a communication passage 20 is closed and a mixture from a carburetor 11 and pressurized air from an air pump 15 are supplied at prescribed timing into a combustion chamber 5 from a main intake passage 12 and a super-charging passage 16. When the rapid rotation of the engine E is detected by a detection switch 22, the changeover valve 21 is opened so that the communication passage 20 is opened and the part of the supercharging passage 16 at the side of the air pump 15 is closed. As a result, the mixture from the carburetor 11 flows into the combustion chamber 5 from the communication passage 20 through a supercharging port 7 because a main intake port 6 is closed. A sufficient charging efficiency can thus be maintained although the duration of opening of the supercharging port 7 per rotation decreases.
