Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent excessive drop of charging efficiency at the time when the opening of throttle valve is small, by providing a branch pipe serving as the so called surge tank at a portion of intake passage located downstreams of throttle valve.
CONSTITUTION: Branch pipe 18 is provided at a portion of intake passage 7 located downstreams of throttle valve 14. Since capacity of intake passage on the downstream side of throttle valve 14 is increased by the branch pipe 18, mixture is supplied through throttle valve 14 to the downstream side continuously also after closing of intake valve 21, so that intake air continues to have flowing inertia until intake valve 21 is opened again. Therefore, intake air is introduced into combustion chamber 5 or crank chamber 11 promptly as soon as intake valve 21 is opened.
