Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the braking function by putting the interior of combustion chambers into supercharged state by a structure wherein an exhaust gas sucking-in means is inserted in the combustion chamber of each cylinder at the titled braking device, which applies braking by opening and closing a batterfly valve arranged in an exhaust gas passage. CONSTITUTION:When a driver puts high foot off an accelerator pedal and turns ON a manual switch 18, a tertiary valve 34 opens a tertiary port 28 by a small amount in proportion to the lift of a cam 56 corresponding to the combustion chamber by means of the oil pressure within oil passages 74 and 66 in order to let the high pressure gas within the combustion chamber 22 jet into an exhaust manifold 4 through the port 28 and to apply the braking action through the butterfly valve 8. At the same time, the jetted high pressure gas flows into another combustion chamber, the phase of stroke of which is in suction stroke, by pushing open the exhaust valve 32 of said another combustion chamber, resulting in giving high pressure energy to the gas within said another combustion chamber in compression stroke so as to dissipated through the tertiary valve 34 of said another combustion chamber. In such a manner as decribed above, the remarkably high braking energy is applied to the system.
