Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish adjustment of the amount of air sucked without depending on any throttle along with a proper control of emission by regulating the opening/ closing timing of suction/exhaust valves in the internal combustion corresponding to applying level of the accelerator pedal.
CONSTITUTION: A cam shaft is provided with cams 5 and 6 for opening/closing timing of the suction/exhaust valves through piston bodies 11 and 12. A locker arm 4a for opening or closing the suction/exhaust valves is arranged in contact with the two cams. Oil pressure is supplied to the piston bodies 11 and 12 through a path 22 arranged in the cam shaft and depending on the pressure, the lift level of the cams 5 and 6 is adjusted. The path 22 is provided with a relief valve 33 which is closed as the applying level of the accelerator 29 grows large. Also provided is a device which operates in linkage to actuate a solenoid 43 with the action of a switch 46 at the deceleration by releasing the pedal 29 so that an opening/closing valve 42 of a suction path 41 is closed and then, actuates the engine brake.
