Abstract
PURPOSE: To intake or exhaust air into or from an internal combustion engine in response to the operating state of the engine by controlling hydraulic pressure interlocking with the engine for intake and exhaust valve control units.
CONSTITUTION: Hydraulic oil is supplied from a gear pump 10 interlocking with an internal combustion engine through a master cylinder body 20 into an oil chamber 53 formed at the top of air intake and exhaust valve 56 to thereby open or close the valve 56. There are provided a hydraulic piston 22 varying the exhaust pressure from the oil chamber by the cam 25 of a cam shaft 24, an oil supply valve 29 for regulating the oil amount from the pump 10, and a needle valve 32 for returning excessive oil to a supply tube 28 in the oil chamber 27 of the body 20, which valve 32 opens or closes in response to the position of the cam surface 37 formed on the cam rod 36 moving in response to the hydraulic pressure of the pump 10. As a result, suitable amount of oil is introduced from an exhaust tube 31 into the chamber 53 to thus drive the valve 56 through the passages 64, 65 formed in the casing 51 to be returned into the tube 28.
