PURPOSE:To increase engine brake force and improve durablility of the valve moving mechanism by providing an exclusive engine brake valve in addition to the suction and exhaust valves, and opening said valve at the compression top dead point of the piston by means of a valve actuating mechanism. CONSTITUTION:In a engine cylinder 1 having a suction valve 3 and an exhaust valve 4, a third valve 5 which opens at the compression top dead point of the piston, is provided, preferably at the point corresponding to the cavity 2 on the piston top surface. Further, as the valve actuating mechanism for the third valve, an exclusive rocker arm 9 and a rocker shaft 8 which supports the rocker arm to be free to rock, are separately provided in addition to the rocker shaft 6 of the suction and exhaust velves 3 and 4 and the rocker arm 7 of the exhaust velve 4, and the third cam 13 for exclusive use for the third valve 5 is prepared on the cam shaft 10 for the open and close operation of the suction and exhaust valves 3 and 4 in addition to the cams 11 and 12 for said exhaust valves 3 and 4 and the top of the cam 13 is made to correspond to the top dead point of the piston.
