Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove nearly completely Ni extracted with, and accompanied by, an org. solvent from the solvent, by separating and removing selectively Co from an aq. soln. contg. Ni, Co with the org. solvent contg. M2EHPA, then by washing the org. solvent with an aq. soln. contg. Co.
CONSTITUTION: A soln. contg. Ni, Co is brought into contact with an extracting agent, i.e., an org. solvent such a kerosene, which contains 20% by volume mono- 2-ethylhexyl ester of 2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid (M2EHPA) and which is adjusted to a pH not higher than 5. Co contained in the soln. is extracted selectively into the org. solvent, with accompaniment of a small amount of Ni. Hence, the org. solvent is washed by addn. of washing water, which contains Co not less than 1g/l, in a ratio of the water to the org. solvent of 10W0.1. Hereby, Ni contained in the org. solvent is removed nearly completely from the solvent, thereby separating high purity Ni and Co.
