Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate and remove iron effectively by a simplified operation in which iron present in an acid phosphate extraction solvent is brought into contact with an aqueous solution of specific chelating agent at a specific pH to transfer the iron to the aqueous solution.
CONSTITUTION: Acid phosphate such as di-2-ethylhexyl phosphate itself, or in solution in benzene etc., is brought into contact with an aqueous solution containing approx. 0.001W1mol/l of an alkylenepolyamineacetate chelating agent such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, at pH 4.5 or more, whereupon iron in the acid phosphate is almost completely transferred to the chelating agent aqueous solution and then separated for removal. Thus, iron can be removed from acid phosphate extraction solvent effectively by a simplified operation.
