Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the extraction efficiency of Co by washing the specific organic extracting solvent or the mixed solution of this extraction agent and diluent with alkali and sulfuric acid and using the same in separating Co from the solution containing Ni and Co.
CONSTITUTION: The extraction agent for extracting and separating Co from the solution containing Ni and Co comprises contacting the organic solvent mainly composed of the 2-ethyl hexyl phosphonic acid mono 2-ethyl hexyl ester shown by the formula or the above extraction agent and diluent such as mineral oil or the like at a temperature of about 50°C and volume ratios of both 10:1 to 1:10 with a mixer or the like, washing these with an alkali solution such as of KOH or other of concentration 10% or under then neutralizing the solution with a sulfuric acid or the like of concentrations 50 to 250 g/l. This extracting solvent selectively extracts Co. If the times of extraction are repeated, the rate of Co extraction will be additionally increased.
