Abstract

PURPOSE: Solvent extraction is conducted by the use of an organic solvent including a specific extracting agent and a phase separation accelerator to recover arsenic (III) efficiently from a sulfuric acid solution containing arsenic (III), iron (II), and zinc in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: An organic solvent including a dialkyldithiophosphate bearing alkyls of 8W10 carbon atoms as an extracting agent (such as di-2-ethylhexyldithio- phosphate) and a higher alcohol of 6W20 carbon atoms and/or a phosphate ester as phase separation accelerator (such as tridecylalcohol) is employed. A sulfuric acid solution containing arsenic (III), iron (II) and zinc is brought into contact with the above organic solvent at 4 or lower pH to extract arsenic, iron and zinc. After the the organic extract is brought into contact with a sulfuric acid solution of 600g/l or lower concentration to remove the iron and zinc, it is brought into contact with an alkali solution whereby the arsenic is extracted into the alkali solution. Thus, arsernic (III) is selectively recovered.
