Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve mechanical strength and discharge characteristic by compression molding a porous foamed metal and an active material into a single element and pressure-filling the active material in the porous structure of the foamed metal. CONSTITUTION:A molded positive electrode 5, a separator 7 and a negative electrode terminal plate 9 filled with paste negative electrode 8 are put in a positive electrode case 6 in order. The positive electrode case 6 and the terminal plate 9 are tightly closed together with an annular gasket 10 separating the electrode case 6 and the terminal plate 9, thus producing a button type battery. The molded positive electrode 5 is formed in a single element by compression molding a foamed metal piece 1 having three-dimensional net structure 2 of a metal, such as nickel, nickel-chrome alloy or silver, and a positive electrode active material 4 applied to one side of the structure 2 thus pressure-filling the positive electrode active material 4 partially in the holes 3 and the porous structure of the foamed metal to form a positive electrode 3.
