Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the internal resistance, and enhance the current collecting efficiency of a battery by using a porous body made of a sintered body containing fibrous metals as a current collecting terminal of the electrode body. CONSTITUTION:A negative plate 1 is prepared by impregnating a sintered base plate with a given active material. A spiral electrode body is formed by interposing a separator 3 between the negative plate 1 and a positive plate 2. The positive plate 2 of the spiral electrode body is provided with, for example, an extruding side periphery 4 which is an electrode core metal and is not impregnated with any active material. A current collecting body 5 used as a terminal is placed on the side periphery 4, before these two are fused with a pair of welding electrodes 6. The body 5 is a porous sintered body containing numerous metal fibers, and is prepared by pressing and molding distributed fibrous metals before the molded body is sintered in a reducing atmosphere.
