Abstract

PURPOSE:To make strong discharge characteristic better by the procedure in which the upper and lower ends of spirally coiled electrodes are exposed, and then core metal and active substance layer at the end portion are exposed on the same surface and welded with a current collector. CONSTITUTION:A cell is formed by slightly shifting the positive plate 1 and the negative plate 2 alternately and vertically, housing spirally coiled electrodes in the metal case 8 as the negative electrode terminal through the separator 3, and sealing it with the cap 5 as the positive electrode terminal through the gasket 10. At the upper part of the electrodes, the -shaped positive current collector 4 of nickel net, for example, is placed and then welded with the upper end of the positive electrode 1 and also the lower end of the negative electrode 2 is welded with the current collector 7. In this case, the end portions of the electrodes 1 and 2 are conditioned in such a state that both the porous cores 11 and 12 and an active substance are exposed on the same surface, and also the end portions are well polished so as to form good connection between the current collectors 4 and 7 and the electrodes 1 and 2.
