Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce inefficiency in producing alkali storage batteries and to improve discharge property by employing a terminal provided with ditches having U-shaped cross-section when the terminal is electrically welded with a spiral plate group having the upper and the lower ends where a core is exposed. CONSTITUTION:A positive and a negative electrode plates having the upper or the lower end where a core metal 2 is exposed are formed. The core metal 2 is spirally roled with the negative and positive electrode plates through a separator in the condition that each circle is plipping down, to prepare a plate group 1. A terminal 3 is welded with the core 2 exposed on both ends of the plate group, after melting it with heat generated by electric resistance. The terminal 3 is provided with at least two ditches a, a' having a U-shaped cross-section. The ditches a, a' are arranged to cross the edge of the core 2 and they are welded, eating into each other.
