Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the capacity density of a battery at a low cost, by using a given sintered body made of fiber as a collector into which a pasty active material is packed. CONSTITUTION:A porous sintered body is prepared by sintering iron fiber, before nickel plating is performed on the sintered iron fiber. Thus prepared porous sintered body, which is used as a collector, is packed with a pasty material prepared by mixing cadmium oxide used as an active material with a solvent such as ethylene glycol, thereby a negative plate being made. A sealed nickel-cadmium battery is constituted by using a negative plate formed thereby. The iron fiber used for the sintered body, which has a fiber diameter of 4-100mu, is specially manufactured by a cutting work. It is preferable that the sintered body, which has a porosity of over 90%, is prepared by sintering the former iron fibers in such a manner that they are arranged in a given direction. The thickness of the former nickel plating is preferred to be 2-3mu as it is considered from the view points of strength and specific resistance.
