Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the high-rate discharge characteristic as well as the cycle life of an alkaline storage battery, by using a pasted positive plate, which is prepared by packing a slurrylike positive active material into a given sintered porous body made of nickel fiber. CONSTITUTION:A sintered porous body prepared by sintering nickel fiber is packed with a slurrylike active material, which is prepared by adding a solvent to a mixture consisting of nickel oxyhydroxide used as a main component, 1-5% of Cd(OH)2, 3-5% of Co(OH)2, 5-10% of nickel and the like. After that, the sintered porous body packed with the slurrylike active material is dried and compressed, thereby a pasted nickel positive plate being made. The former nickel fiber used for preparing the sintered porous body has a fiber diameter of 14-50mu, and is manufactured by a melt spinning method. The sintered porous body is manufactured by, for example, making a non-woven cloth of 1mm. thickness by use of thus manufactured nickel fiber after it is cut into short fibers of 1-50mm. length, before the non-wovencloth is sintered at 1,000 deg.C in a reducing atmosphere of H2, N2 or the like. Thus manufactured sintered porous body made of nickel fiber has a porosity of 95%.
