Abstract

PURPOSE:To economize the costs of materials, and enhance the activity rate of a pasted cadmium negative plate by subjecting the negative plate to a formation treatment carried out in an electrolyte kept at a given concentration and a given temperature. CONSTITUTION:Cadmium oxide used as an active material is added with a conductive agent, short fibers made of a synthetic resin, a binding agent and the like, and the mixture is kneaded into a pasty mixture. Thus prepared pasty mixture is applied to a core material made of a nickel-plated perforated steel plate, before the core material coated with the pasty mixture is dried and pressed, thus a plate which has not undergone any formation being prepared. Thus prepared plate is subjected to a formation treatment carried out in an aqueous potassium hydroxide solution, thus a pasted cadmium negative plate being manufactured. The concentration of the former aqueous potassium hydroxide solution used as the electrolyte for the formation should be 10-20wt%. In addition, the temperature of the electrolyte should be adjusted to 30-50 deg.C.
