Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain a high utilization rate of the elecytodes of an alkaline zinc storage battery, and increase the life of the electrodes by pressing separating layers interpoaed through a peculiar process between the nagative and positive electrodes together with those electrode, with a given pressure. CONSTITUTION:A separating layers 3 and 4 are interposed between a positive electrode 2 made of nickel hydroxide or the like and a ndgative electrode 1 made of zinc and a zinc compound such as zinc oxide so that they closely touch each other. Thus made layers are formed into, for example, a spiral assembled element, which is placed in a case, thereby an alkaline zinc storage battery being constituted. The separating layers 3, 4 is composed of 2 layers and a porous nonwoven fabric 4 having a large electrolyte holding ability, is made to touch the surface of positive electrode 2. A micro porous film 3 having a small electrolyte holding ability, is made to touch the surface of nagative electrode 1. The spiral assembled element is formed by rolling the former layers while applying a pressure of 30-90kg/cm<2> to the electrodes 1 and 2. The micro porous film 3 preferably is prepared by applying an aqueous mixture solution consisting of PVA and boric acid to a nonwoven fabric made of polypropylene before the fabric with the mixture solution is dried. The porous nonwoven fabric 4 is preferred to be made of polyamide.
