Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain perfect sealing effect and exothermic thermal insulation when making top pouring in the process of steel ingot making by using a double layer type heat insulator that consists of an upper layer of exothermic expansible riser plastics and a lower layer of non-expansible exothermic riser plastics for sealing of mold and heat retaining of molten steel.
CONSTITUTION: An inlet 2 is provided at the center of the main body 1 of double layer type board consisting of an upper layer of exothermic expansible riser plastics and a lower layer of non-expansible riser plastics. The circumference of the inlet is covered with an L-shaped thin metal plate 3 and a wire 4 is fitted to it. Then, the riser frame 7 is set to the mold on the molding board 10. The main body of the board 1 is set to the insulator board pedestal 8 and an expansible insulator cover 5 is placed on the inlet 2. Then, a pipe is inserted through the pipe insertion hole 6 and the air in the mold is replaced by sealing gas. With the cover removed, molten steel is poured into the mold 9 until the molten steel comes in contact with the main body of the board 1. Then, the inlet 2 is covered with the cover 5.
