Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent generation of surface and internal defects in the extruded product, by forming a circumferential gap of a prescribed width in the wall of the pressure vessel at a prescribed distance from the die surface, by extruding the shell through above stated gap at the same time as the billet is extruded through the die.
CONSTITUTION: A flat die 2 is set at one end of the pressure vessel 1, and a hot heated billet 3 as the material to be extruded is inserted into the vessel through another end; this billet 3 is extruded through the die 2 by pressing with the press arm 5 through the block 4. Hereupon, the pressure vessel 1 is divided perpendicularly to its axis at a position of 30W150mm distant from the surface of the die 2 set at one end of the pressure vessel 1, and a gap 6 of 0.3W5mm is formed between thus divided pressure vessels 1a, 1b, in order to extrude and remove the slag sticking on the surface of the billet 3 through the above stated gap 6 as the shell, at the same time as the billet 3 is extruded in a prescribed shape through the die 2.
