Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a metallic material thin strip of good surface characteristics continuously in a large volume by continuously supplying molten metal between a large-diameter cylinder which is rotating at high speeds and a small-diameter roll which is inscribing or circumscribing with the same, and subjecting the molten metal to quenching, solidifying ad rolling.
CONSTITUTION: A molten metallic material 3 is continuously supplied between a metallic large-diameter cylinder 1 of a diameter D which is rotating at high speeds, and a small-diameter roll 2 of a diameter (d) which is inscribing or circumscribing therewith and is pressed thereto (pressing pressure is ≥1kg per 1mm of unit width in the width direction rectangulr to the lengthwise direction of a thin strip), and the molten metal 3 is subjected to quenching solidifying and rolling by means of the cylinder 1 and roll 2. Here, if the diameter of said cylinder 1 is defined as D, and the wall thickness as (t), it is made larger than 2mm and D/T is made ≥5. When the diameter of the roll 2 is defined as (d), D/d is made ≥2, and D≥200mm. In this way, the contact length of the material to be cooled increases, and this enables high cooling efficiency to be obtained and the metal material thin strip 5 of good surface characteristics to be obtained.
