Abstract
PURPOSE:To make possible repetitive and stable formation of a metal thin strip of uniform width and superior surface characteristic with simple construction by forming an annular groove on the peripheral surface of at least one of a roller pair of high heat conductivity metal of a metal thin strip forming apparatus, and coating the side walls thereof with high hardness material. CONSTITUTION:An annular groove 8 of <=0.1mm. depth, for example, 20mum, and 5mm. width having a square section is provided to the peripheral surface of one of pair of mutually adjoining rollers 7. An alloy tool steel of high hardness material (Vickers hardness Hv840) is used for the side wall portions 11 of said groove 8. On the other hand, copper is used as material of high heat conductivity for the portions of the roller 7 other than the side wall portions 11. These rollers 7 are revolved at about 600r.p.m. and melt 13 of an alloy of Fe4.7Co70.3Si15B10 is spouted toward the groove from a nozzle 12, whereby it is rolled and high speed cooled and an amorphous alloy strip 14 is thus formed.
