Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve internal and external qualities, by interposing a cylindrical floating funnel which rises to the surface along with the elevation of the surface of molten steel, between the core grid and the inner peripheral surface of mold, and, at the same time, by performing casting while a covering material is floating on the surface of molten steel.
CONSTITUTION: Core grid 1 made of carbon steel and hanged by core grid supporting bar 5 is inserted into the center of mold 2, and cylindrical floating funnel 9 is placed on floating funnel table 8. Several number of containing bags 11 containing the covering material are installed between floating funnel 9 and mold 2. When the molten steel is charged from the bottom through cross gate 7 under this condition, floating funnel 9 rises to the surfaces and containing bag 11 is burnt by the heat of molten steel. Covering material 10 containing in containing bag 11 floats on the surface of molten steel between floating funnel 9 and mold 2 and melts, and prevents the molten steel from allowing to contact with mold 2. Moreover, floating funnel 9 floating to the surface prevents the covering material from sticking to core grid 1.
