Abstract
PURPOSE: Exhaust gas having a high HC concentration just after the opening and just before the closing of the exhaust valve is predominantly returned to burn the not yet burnt fuel again within the combustion chamber, and thereby the fuel consumption is improved and both HC concentration and NOx concentration in the exhaust gas are decreased.
CONSTITUTION: Double projection cam 35 of metal plate is mounted on the cam shaft 34 having an exhaust cam 33 for use in opening and closing the exhaust valve 6, and the opening and closing valve 20 is opened or closed by this double projection cam 35. The outlet port 14 near the helical part of the exhaust valve 6 is opened by the liner 36 fixed inside the exhaust port 8, and thereafter the exhaust port 8 up to the flow part is divided into inner and outer circumferences, the exhaust gas having a high HC concentration discharged just after the opening of the exhaust valve 6 and just before the closing of it is flowed into the outer circumference port 37, surplus exhaust gas having a high HC concentration not discharged from the outlet port 14 is returned to the exhaust port 8 via communication hole 38 from the downstream end of the outer circumferential port 37 and thereby an efficiency of extraction of the exhaust gas having a high HC concentration is improved.
