PURPOSE: To prevent exhaust gas from flowing into an intake chamber and prevent wrong cmbustion, by making the distance between apex seals larger than the diameter of opening of an exhaust passage.
CONSTITUTION: The distance L1 between the outer ends of the apex seals 17, 18 is made larger than the diameter L2 of opening of the exhaust passage 6 in the circumferential direction. When a working chamber 4b is about to go into the exhaust cycle the expansion cycle, the preceding working chamber 4a is disconnected from the exhaust passage 6, the combustion gas is kept from returning into the working chamber 4b through the working chamber 4a because the apex seal 17 is in contact with the inside surface of a housing. Therefore, the wrong combustion and the deterioration of the engine performance are prevented
