Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent exhaust gas from entering into a new mixture, by providing in an exhaust passage a valve which opens or closes synchronously with the rotation of engine.
CONSTITUTION: A rotor housing 1 has a cylindrical hole 13, which extends in the axial direction across the exhaust passage 6 and has a diameter larger than that of the exhaust passage 6. The valve 25 has a valve element 24, which has a sectorial cross section and an arc length larger than the diameter of the exhaust passage 6 and has almost the same radius of curvature as the cylindrical hole 23. The valve 25 shuts off the exhaust passage 6 before a rotor 3 reaches the bottom dead center of exhaust. The exhaust passage 6 remains shut off until a preceding apex seal 17 passes the opening of the passage 6 on the inside surface of the housing 1. Therefore, the exhaust gas is prevented from diluting the new mixture, and the wrong combustion is avoided
