Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent fuel vapor from being discharged to the outside when the fuel is filled to a tank, by providing pressure reducing means for reducing the pressure in a fuel vapor adsorbing vessel as necessary when an internal combustion engine is stopped and allowing the fuel vapor when necessary to be attracted and adsorbed forcibly into the above described adsorbing vessel.
CONSTITUTION: When a cap 22 is set to a fuel filling port 14 of a fuel tank 10, a solenoid valve 34 closes a pipe line 32 and a three-way valve 38 allows an atmospheric link port 30b of a canister 30 to be linked to an inflow pipe 36 for elimination reacting air. Accordingly, if a fuel vapor pressure in the tank 10 is raised to the atmospheric pressure or more, a check valve 20 is opened to permit a canister 16 to perform the action of suppressing a discharge of the fuel vapor. While a hydrocarbon which has been adsorbed to the canisters 16, 30 is attracted to a suction line by the operation of an engine. On the other hand, if the cap 22 is removed for the fuel filling operation, the pipe line 32 is opened by the valve 34 and the atmospheric link port 30b is linked to a suction pump 40 by the three-way valve 38 to prevent the discharge of fuel vapor from the filling port 14.
