Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide hard particles for use as abrasion resistant combined material having cheaper cost and higher abrasion resistance than those of cemented carbide high speed steel, which includes each specific ratio of Cr, B and Sb and the remaining Fe.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal is made from an alloy consisting of Cr(20W40%)- B(3W10%)-Fe(3W10%)-Fe(the remaining) alloy added with Sb (0.02W5%). A copper box 1 in which cooling water is passed is placed in a water tank 2 in a tilted position so that the upper part of the box 1 is above the water level. The molten alloy is dropped onto the copper box 1 and is splashed into water to form particles. The obtained particles have a hardness of Hv: 1386 and a melting point of about 1300°C. The alloy particles, by combining with low melting metal or alloy such as brazing alloy, provide a high abrasion-resistant combined material without losing its toughness.
