Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily granulate an Fe-Cr-B alloy by adding special amount of Sn to the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: 0.3W5% of Sn is added to an Fe-Cr-B alloy containing 20W40% of Cr, 3W10% of B and balance of Fe, and the mixture is molten. The molten alloy is dropped as droplets over a water-cooled copper box 1 submerged in water and exposed at the top from the water surface in a water tank 2 and scattered in the water in the tank 2. Since Sn is added to the mixture, the latter is granulated in the water and subjcted to composite material by the soldering with low melting point metal or alloy to provide superhard particles of stock material which can be produced inexpensively for superhard chip or the like having excellent wear resistance without loss of toughness.
