Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A thiophenesulfonylhydrazone I [R is II (R1 is pyridyl), III or IV; R2 is H, lower alkyl or V (R3 is lower alkyl)].
EXAMPLE: Pyridine-1-oxide-2-carbaldehyde 2-thiophenesulfonylhydrazone.
USE: A carcinostatic substance. It has low toxicity and high antitumor activity. It is effective as a remedy for malignant tumor, e.g. leukemia, sarcoma, cancer, etc.
PROCESS: The compound I is prepared in high yield by reacting a compound R=0, e.g. 2-pyridinecarbaldehyde, etc., with nearly equimolar amount of 2-thiophenesulfonylhydrazide in a solvent, e.g. ethanol, at 1W250°C for 1W10hr under anhydrous condition. A dehydrocondensing agent effective also as a buffer can be used to attain the anhydrous condition. The agent is, e.g. anhydrous sodium acetate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, etc.
