Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the increase of internal resistance and the breakage of separator, by installing a separator made from a sheet consisting of specific glass fibers and polypropylene fibers etc. between the positive pole mix and negative pole mix. CONSTITUTION:A specific organic electrolyte is poured mostly into the negative pole side and partly into the positive pole side. A separator 6 made from a non- woven cloth consisting of 50-80wt% glass fibers having 0.2-1mum diameter and 50-15wt% polypropylene or polyethylene fibers or a mixture of both is placed between the positive pole mix 2 and the negative pole mix 5. The periphery of this separator 6 is fixed under pressure between a gasket 4 and the positive pole mix 2. The separator 6 does not give rise to breakage and/or local thinning because of its extensibility and the decrease of discharge voltage can be protected by the good liquid retaining property, even when the central part 7 of the positive pole mix 2 deforms, as if it had stood out greatly, due to swelling at the last stage of discharge.
