Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the increase of internal resistance and the breakage of separator, by installing a multilayered separator made from a layer of specific glass fibers and a layer of polypropylene fibers etc. in such a manner that the prescribed surface comes in contact with the negative pole mix. CONSTITUTION:A separator 6 formed in two layers or multilayers from a layer consisting of glass fibers having 0.2-1mum diameter and an organic fiber layer consisting of polypropylene or polyethylene fibers or a mixture of both is arranged and fixed between the positive pole mix 2 and the negative pole mix 5, in such a manner that the surface of said organic fiber layer is in contact with the negative pole mix 5. The separator 6 may be made in two layers from a glass fiber layer 7 and an organic fiber layer 8, or may be made in three layers from an organic fiber layer 8 and two glass fiber layers 7. A three-layered structure is most preferable. Satisfactory liquid retaining property is kept at all times.
