Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title Al-Mg-Si type alloy contg. a respectively specified of Mg, Si, Cu, Cr and esp. B and giving a product with a high surface grade when extruded.
CONSTITUTION: This Al-Mg-Si type alloy contains 0.35W1.5% Mg, 0.2W1.0% Si, 0.11W0.45% Cu and 0.005W less than 0.02% B. By esp. adding B this alloy can be extruded at a sufficient speed without damaging the surface grade of the resulting extruded material. The impurity content of this alloy is pref. 0.35% or less. A billet of this alloy is homogenized at 450W600°C and extruded at 400W550°C. As a result, a uniform fine recrystallized structure is formed up to a depth of about 0.1mm from the surface of the extruded material to prevent seizing to dies in extrusion, and the extruded material has a high surface grade.
