Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently manufacture a steel additive, which is easily added in bulk in a high addn. yield, by covering the surface of a core wire made of metal such as Ca, Al or Mg, alloy or composite material thereof with a metal tape having no bad influence on steel and by cutting the resulting composite wire into short lengths.
CONSTITUTION: About 6 mesh metallic Ca 1 is charged into extruder container 2 and extruded into 6.4 mmϕ rough wire 3. 0.2 mm thick mild steel tape 4 is longitudinally attached to wire 3 and passed through tape molding machine 5 to overlap tape 4 around wire 3 by about 180°. The resulting composite wire is cut into lengths of 2W3 cm with two edges. In the cutting the tape does not open. When added to molten steel, Ca rough wire 3 enters the steel and reacts with it in a high addn. yield without being oxidized with oxygen in air or slag since the specific gravity of wire 3 is raised by mild steel tape 4 covered, and the surface of wire 3 is covered with tape 4.
