Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title copper alloy the wear resistance of which is enhanced, resulting in elongating the life of trolley wires, by limiting the contents of tin and Zr.
CONSTITUTION: A copper alloy for trolley wires is refined consisting of, by wt., tin; 0,05W0.4%, Zr; 0.005W0.1% and the balance copper essentially. For example, usual copper metal is covered with charcoal and melted at 1200W1300°C. After adding tin as its element and Zr as a Cu-10%Zr mother alloy to the molten copper, they are dissolved well and continuous-cast into a 120 mm square ingot. The ingot is hot rolled at about 850°C to a rough wire of 22.5 mmϕ, which is then worked into a grooved trolley wire of 110 mm2 by surface cutting and cold drawing. Thus, the wear resistance can be improved considerably, and the occurrence of stress corrosion cracking is controlled while keeping superior heat resistance. In addn., superior hot and cold workability can be shown at the time of manufacturing trolley wires.
