Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the occurrence of casting cracks and to considerably enhance the elongation of a rough wire or the like by adding zirconium alkali fluoride to molten electrical Al to refine an alloy and by continuously casting and rolling the alloy.
CONSTITUTION: When an Al-Zr alloy is refined, zirconium potassium fluoride or other zirconium alkali fluoride is added to molten electrical Al and mixed so as to adjust the Zr content to 0.01W0.11wt%. The resulting alloy is continuously cast at 10W20m/min casting speed and rolled to obtain an electrically conductive wire rod of the heat resistant Al alloy. By this method the occurrence of casting cracks can be reduced, and high-speed continuous casting and rolling are enabled. The characteristics of the manufactured wire rod such as the heat resistance and elongation are enhanced.
