Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the workability and toughness of a ferritic stainless steel by regulating the steel to a compsn. consisting of a specific amt. of C, Si, Mn, Al, Cr and N, a restricted amt. of Nb. and the balance Fe and accompanying impurities.
CONSTITUTION: The title ferritic stainless steel consists of C≤0.025%, Si; 0.5W 3.5%, Mn≤3%, Al; 0.5W3.5%, Cr; 10W30%, N≤0.025%, Nb; 8×(C%+N%)W 1%, and the balance Fe and accompanying impurities. The steel is used as a material for steel pipes for a recuperator in various heating furnaces, a car exhaust gas converter and a heater, and for other purposes requiring oxidation resistance. The steel is equal or superior to a conventional heat and oxidation resistant Cr-Si-Al type ferritic stainless steel in mechanical properties.
