Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide title stainless steel having stress corrosion crack resistance, particulary excellent in environment of high-temperature, high-pressure water by using specific composition of C, Si and Mn and contg. Nb and N that meet specific condition.
CONSTITUTION: The titled stainless steel consists of C: 0.025% or less, Si: 2% or less, Mn: 2% or less, N: 9W18%, Cr: 16W22%, P: 0.04 or less, S: 0.03% or less, or further contains Mo: 0.2W2%, Nb and N to meet the equations I and II conditions, and the remaining Fe. The composition is characterized by the equation that defines interrelation between Nb and N. This stainless steel has a highly improved mechanical strength and an excellent stress corrosion crack resistance and therefore is suited to material for parts such as heat exchanger of nuclear reactor. Mo is added when specific resistance to oxidation is needed, but the amount less than 0.2% is not effective, and upper limit of 2% is sufficient.
