Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the strength of a low alloy Cr-Mo steel for a pressure vessel and the toughness as the vessel at high temp. by adding specified elements to the steel.
CONSTITUTION: A low alloy Cr-Mo steel having a composition prepared by adding 0.005W0.02% Ti and 0.0005W0.02% B to a basic composition consisting of <0.30% C, <0.60% Si, 0.20W1.5% Mn, 1.00W3.50% Cr, 0.40W1.50% Mo, <0.30% Cu, 0.10W0.60% Ni and the balance Fe is used as a material for a reactor for petroleum refining, various pressure vessels for chemical industry, etc. To the basic composition may be added 0.01W0.50% at least one of Nb, Ta and V and/ or 0.0005W0.02% Ca. When a pressure vessel is manufactured using this steel, it has superior strength and the toughness does not deteriorate even if used as a high temp. pressure vessel in the embrittlement temp. zone for a long time.
