Abstract

PURPOSE:To control the shape of crown, and to improve the effect of skinpass, by injecting air, water, or air-water mixture from the cooling nozzle installed so as to cover the full breadth of the roll surface of the skinpass roll, and by cooling the roll surface. CONSTITUTION:The cooling air supply system 4 consists of the compressor C, the flow control valve 41, and the piping 42; the cooling water supply system 5 consists of the pump P, the flow control valve 51, and the piping 52; the cooling air, water, or air-water mixture, are arbitrarily selected by suitably adjusting the respective control valve 41, 51, of above supply systems 4, 5, and are supplied to each header 31. The cooling medium is injected from each nozzle 32 of the cooling nozzle unit 3 aganist the surface of upper and lower rolls 1, 2, through respective header 31 installed along the roll surface so as to cover the full length of upper and lower rolls 1, 2. This injection is carried out during the idle time since the end of rolling work for one coil until the start of next rolling. According to this method, the roll temperature can be 20-30 deg.C lowered, which is very effective.
