Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the cooling efficiency, and to reduce the consumption of cooling water, by giving vibration from plural ultrasonic vibrators to the cooling water rushing out of a slit shaped water effluent port long in the direction of breadth of a hot steel material, and by controlling the output of the ultrasonic vibrator correspondingly to the shape of the steel material. CONSTITUTION:The cooling water, rushing out of a slit shaped water effluent port 8 of a nozzle 2 long in the direction of breadth of a hot steel material 1, flows upon the surface of the hot steel material 1. Plural ultrasonic vibrators 10 are arranged just above the water effluent port 8, and are connected to an ultrasonic generator 11. When a hot steel material 1 is carried in, a pump 4 is started to pump up the cooling water of a water tank 3 to the nozzle 2 through a pipe line 5 and a control valve 6; hereby, the cooling water flows out of the water effluent port 8 onto the surface of the steel material 1. Meanwhile, a controller 12 selects the number of ultrasonic generators 11 according to the breadth of the steel material 1, and changes the output of vibrators according to the thickness of the steel material 1; hereby, the operation of the ultrasonic generators 11 is controlled. The generated ultrasonic wave vibrates the ultrasonic vibrators 10, which thereby give a vibration to the cooling water stream.
