Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to change the natural frequency of a runner of a hydraulic machine, by forming a water and air mixing chamber in a back-pressure chamber, and providing a means for feeding and discharging compressed air to and from said mixing chamber in an upper cover of the machine. CONSTITUTION:In a back-pressure chamber 8 defined between a runner 4 and an upper cover 7, a natural frequency controlling chamber 9 is formed further in the upper cover. A pipe 10 is opened in the chamber 9 so that compressed air can be supplied to or discharged from the chamber 9 via the pipe 10. With such an arrangement, when the frequency of hydraulic oscillating force becomes equal to that of the nautral oscillation of the runner 4, a valve attached to the pipe 10 is opened for feeding compressed air to the natural frequency controlling chamber 9, changing the depth of water on the side of the upper cover 7 of the runner 4, and thereby changing the natural frequency of the runner 4.
