Abstract

(57)【要約】 【課題】 ディジタルメディアのデータ語とトランスポ
ンダからのコード語との間に整合がある場合に限り再生
装置に再生させる著作権保護方法を提供する。 【解決手段】 メディアである、例えばＴＩＲＩＳ暗号
化されたディスクの中央内に取り付けられたＴＩＲＩＳ
トランスポンダは、コード語と所定アドレスとを前処理
プログラムされたメモリを有する。メディア再生装置は
トランスポンダに質問しかつ応答を受信する機能を有す
る。トランスポンダは、質問で付勢されると、コード語
と所定アドレスを再生装置の質問器へ送信し、再生装置
がディスク上の特定アドレスにアクセスして、読み取っ
たデータ語とコード語とを比較し、その結果不整合デー
タ語は再生から排除する。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【発明の属する技術分野】本発明は、一般に安全目的用
高周波・識別（以下、ＲＦ−ＩＤと称する）システム、
特に著作権付き資料の知的所有権を保護するＲＦ−ＩＤ
システムに関する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】ＲＦ−ＩＤシステムは、益々かつ広い応
用範囲にわたって盛んに使用されつつある。典型的なＲ
Ｆ−ＩＤシステムては、質問器がその読取り距離内のト
ランスポンダへ質問信号を送信し、このトランスポンダ
は、全二重伝送モードで質問信号を後方散乱させるか又
は半二重伝送モードで質問信号によって付勢された後そ
の識別信号を実際に送信するかのいずれかてその識別番
号を送信することによって、応答する。ＲＦ−ＩＤ技術
は、安全市場に地歩を既に固めている。トランスポンダ
は、安全バッジ、交通料金所、又は通用口に容易に取り
付けられて、出入を許可又は禁止し、或は自動課金業務
さえ、すなわち、有料道路、駐車場課金業務さえ行う。
また、読取り装置は、料金徴収所、及び戸口内に容易に
組み込まれるように構成されている。たとえ小規模であ
っても、ＲＦ−ＩＤシステムは、広汎多岐の品物に対す
る安全性を保ちかつ追跡能力を備えることができる。Ｒ
Ｆ−ＩＤシステムの追跡面に関して見ると、倉庫、図書
館、及び製造工場は、全て潜在的な実施場所である。し
かしながら、ＲＦ−ＩＤシステムの安全面に関して見る
と、秘密又は最高秘密政府文書の追跡及び安全保持は、
物理的物体、すなわち、文書に接することを許可又は禁
止することに焦点を当てる領域の１つである。物体を追
跡し及び安全に保護することから更に拡張して、著作権
付き物体、すなわち、ディジタルビデオディスク（以
下、ＤＶＤと称する）及びディジタルビデオカセット
（以下、ＤＶと称する）のみを再生装置、すなわち、Ｄ
ＶＤ再生装置上で再生させることが行われる。
【０００３】著作権／アンチテーブ（ａｎｔｉ−ｔａｐ
ｅ）保護を実行するために利用可能な現行方法論は、
「警告ラベル（Ｗａｒｎｉｎｇ Ｌａｂｅｌ）」以外ほ
とんど抑止力を構成するものがないと特徴付けることか
できる。このプログラム資料は、大部分のスタジオ映画
での事前記録されたＶＨＳテープ、ＣＤ、カセット、ケ
ーブル／衛星チャンネル経由放送映画等の、ほとんどア
ナログ、「有標（ｂｒｎｄｅｄ）」マルチメディア内容
である。最近までは複写製品結果が元の親（Ｍａｓｔｅ
ｒ）資料自体の品質を複製することができない程に甚だ
しく品質が劣化されたので、記録技師、大部分のスタジ
オ等は、このような不適当な安全策（ｓａｆｅｇｕａｒ
ｄ）を黙認してきた。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】ＤＶＤ及びＤＶの出現
に伴って、ディジタル内容メディアがアナログ内容を置
換しかつその翌年又は翌々年内にはロールアウトされる
ので、内容所有者はディジタル内容メディアの不正複写
及び不正再分配を防止する優れた誰にでもしくじること
のない極めて確実な、すなわち、プールフールな技術的
調査研究（ｆｏｏｌ−ｐｒｏｏｆ ｔｅｃｈｎｉｃａｌ
ａｐｐｒｏａｃｈ）を見届けたいと思うであろう。
【０００５】
【課題を解決するための手段】以下に説明される保護シ
ステムは、在庫管理、ペイ・パー・ユーズ（ｐａｙｐｅ
ｒ ｕｓｅ）価格決定取引き、階層（ｔｉｅｒｅｄ）レ
ベルアクセス制御、及び人口統計学データ収集を含む、
価値連鎖（ｖａｌｕｅ ｃｈａｉｎ）内での全ての係争
物預かり第三者（ｓｔａｋｅｈｏｌｄｅｒ）に追加の潜
在利益を提供する。ＴＩＲＩＳ暗号調査研究は、著作権
所有者に大きな価値及び保護を与え得るために、実装メ
ディア材料の管理及び追跡に当たって新たなレベルの精
巧性を使用可能とする。ＴＩＲＩＳ暗号は、平坦な無電
池式高周波半導体トランスポンダ実装であって、著作権
付きＤＶＤメディアの中央に接着又は埋め込まれる。再
生装置内に配置されたＴＩＲＩＳトランシーバで以てし
か読み取ることのできない多様な情報ビットを用いて解
読されることによって、ディスクは真正性を検査され
る。
【０００６】本発明は、「ＴＩＲＩＳ」トランスポンダ
（又は他のＲＦ又はＩＲ又はバーコート又はその他の識
別装置）を提案されたＤＶＤディスクの中心内に物理的
に取り付ける又は埋め込むことを含む。トランスポンダ
のメモリ内で、所定アドレス及びコード語の両方がメデ
ィア製品の製造レベルにおいてトランスポンダ内へ前処
理プログラムされる。メディア再生装置は、ディスクを
再生する機能性を含むだけでなく、また質問信号をトラ
ンスポンダへ送信し、次いでトランスポンダからの応答
信号を受信する機能性も含む。したがって、一旦ディス
クがメディア再生装置に入力されると、メディア再生装
置の質問部分がこのディスク上に配置されたトランスポ
ンダへ質問信号を送信する。それゆえ、質問信号で一旦
付勢されると、このトランスポンダは、所定アドレスに
アクセスしてかつトランスポンダポンダのメモリからコ
ード語を読み取る。次いで、トランスポンダは、アドレ
ス及びコード語の両方をメディア再生装置内に配置され
た質問器へ送信し、かつメディア再生装置がディスク上
の特定アドレス位置にアクセスする。メディア再生装置
は、読み取られたデータ語と受信されたコード語との間
に整合がある場合に限り再生する。この比較は、メディ
ア再生装置の質問部分内又はメディア再生装置自体内で
起こり得る。
【０００７】完全「ＴＩＲＩＳ」暗号解決は、また、許
可された使用者にのみに安全アクセスを行わすために必
要ななんらかのソフトウェアアルゴリズム／ファームウ
ェアルゴリズムを含むであろう。換言すれば、コード語
及び所定アドレスの両方又はこれらのどちらかが、製造
業者レベルで前処理プログラムされた又は顧客によって
プログラムされた或る所定のアルゴリズムに従ってトラ
ンスポンダ内で暗号化されることがある。暗号化コード
語及びアドレスの場合、これら両方がそれらの受信の際
にメディア再生装置の質問部によって解読されるであろ
う。相当する質問器は、ＤＶＤ再生装置自体内又は「価
値連鎖」内に含まれるどの機器内にも埋め込まれるであ
ろう。「価値連鎖」は、小売レベルにおける最終分配に
対するメディア生産、及び最終使用者に対するメディア
生産、例えば、小売業者／貸出業者のＤＶＤメディア、
ＤＶＤ再生装置等の生産ラインにおける検査レーンを含
む。

【発明の実施例の形態】ＴＩＲＩＳ式トランスポンダ
（扁平かつ円形型式、直径約２．５ｃｍ、厚さ約５ｍ
ｍ）は、これをメディア生産段階中種々のディジタル記
憶メディア用に実現することができる。単一ページベー
スライントランスポンダは、２５６ビットから５１２ビ
ットのメモリを有することがある。これらのビットは、
メディア自体内に「コード化又は暗号化」アドレス位置
と共に、メディア内容特定化用、特定ＩＤ、直列番号又
はバッチ（ＢＡＴＣＨ）番号を記憶するように割り当て
られることがある。このディスクアドレスは、ディスク
プログラム資料内の何処かに埋め込まれている特定デー
タに対するポインタとして働く。（認証が妥当検査され
た後になるまではプログラム内容のビューワにまだアク
セス可能でない）ディジタルデータ流内のディスク上に
含まれたこの特有データ語は、トランスポンダ自体のメ
モリ内に配置された予め指定されたコード語と比較され
る。もしこのメディアデータ語とＴＩＲＩＳコード語と
の間に整合があれば、認証は完全であって、その内容へ
再生アクセスが行われる。
【０００９】加えて、更に高いレベルの安全性を提供す
るために、「検査合計」語がまた認証方式に使用される
ことがある。データ整合又はアドレス整合用に事前記憶
されたアルゴリズムを選択するためにルックアップテー
ブルアクセスが使用されることがある。意図したビット
割当て方式の例は、図１に示されている。この例で、ト
ランスポンダ応答データ流の最初の３２ビットの使用
は、著作権付き資料の製造及び在庫管理に関する詳細な
ロギング情報を提供することがきる製品追跡データを含
むことがあると云うことに注意されたい。いま上で注意
した例での情報は、製品ＳＫＵ、バッチ♯、日付、及び
位置コードである。
【００１０】テータの中央１６０ビットはＤＶＤ自体上
のデータ語の６４ビット物理アドレスに専用され、次の
６４ビットはＴＩＲＩＳトランスポンダコード語に指定
される。図解目的のためにのみ示された最終３２ビット
は、もし適用可能ならば解読方式に使用される３２ピッ
トを含む、すなわち、もしコード語及び（又は）所定ア
ドレスがトランスポンダによって暗号化されているなら
ば、そのトランスポンダは、暗号化コード語及び（又
は）所定アドレスを用いて３２ビットまでの解読方式を
送ることがあり、質問器にこれを用いて解読させる。こ
の例を用いて説明を続づけると、（図１に示されたよう
に）最終６４ビットを、ラン／経過ビューイングのよう
な、すなわち、タイムカウンタのような、製造後再書込
み可能データを含むように予約することができるあろ
う。このタイムカウンタは、メディアが再生又は使用さ
れた回数を計数する、すなわち、ペイ・パー・ビュー価
格決定を可能にし、又はラン指定価格決定用許可ランの
数を制限し、かつまた「書込み」サイクルの数を記憶す
る。更に進歩した読取り装置は、これらのビットを、メ
ディア用途の足跡りがニールセン（Ｎｉｅｌｓｏｎ）の
ような放送のみに基づく視聴率調査組織ばかりでなく劇
場入場券販売からも遠退くに従って、遠隔制御ボーリン
グ能力を提供するために使用することができるであろ
う。加えて、このシステムによって創出される実時間用
途データ、取り引き監査証跡からの傾向が、使用者実時
間ニールセン式視聴率（ｒａｔｉｎｇ）を内容所有者、
小売業者の相手先商標商品製造会社（以下、ＯＥＭと称
する）等へのフィードバックのために使用可能とするで
あろう。標的とする聴衆に適当な広告供給を行うため
に、ＴＩＲＩＳシステムを備える再生装置を（ネットワ
ークカードの双方向通信リンクを通して）実時間にポー
ルすることができる。これは、製品有標化、販売促進等
に当たる広告業者へ臨時の利益をもたらす。
【００１１】ＤＶＤ即ちメディア再生装置所有者に対す
る追加的特徴は、個人メディア内容ライブラリ管理機能
を創出するためにメディアベース情報と一緒にＴＩＲＩ
Ｓトランスポンダ情報を利用できることであろう。
【００１２】安全方式の集積性を更に保護するために、
ＴＩＲＩＳ読取り装置機能／質問器機能及び整合プロセ
スを、内部的に、すなわち、質問ＩＣの内部通信バス上
で完成しなければならない。ＭＰＥＧデコーダを、また
メディア再生装置の知能内にも配置することができ、そ
れであるからコードを破壊しかつ保護を破ろうとする企
図は極めて困難であろう。単一ＩＣチップ上のＴＩＲＩ
Ｓ質問器／読取り及びＭＰＥＧデコーダは、このような
構成が著作権の保護を助成するであろうから大いに望ま
しい。
【００１３】認証が成功した際には、使用率カウンタ又
は他の使用ビットカクンタ、及びトランスポンダの書込
み可能素子は、小売業者、再販業者、最終利用者、及び
内容提供者又はこれらの代理権者、すなわちＸ知的所有
権／使用料回収第三者又は代理権者等のような価値連鎖
内にアクセス可能である。「有標」内容が真正性と不整
合である際には、ＤＶＤ再生装置は「不当プログラム複
写」の検出を表示することができるであろう。そこで、
ＴＩＲＩＳ読取り装置は、オンスクリーンディスプレイ
（ＯＳＤと称する）メッセージとしておそらく記憶して
ある事前記録著作権警告位置／注意位置へスイッチする
であろう。
【００１４】高目的応用の場合、すなわち読書き多ベー
ジトランスポンダを使用する場合、在庫管理、後方支
援、及び小売管理機能性が可能であって、具体化が小売
業者、機器製造業者（ハードウェアＯＥＭ）、再販業
者、及び再分配業者に利益を持たらすであろう。製造業
者の日付／場所、編集番号／カタログ番号のような「事
前配置起点データ」はＤＶＤ内に埋め込まれかつ暗号化
されて、古い既に所有されている合法メディアに対する
優れた遺産システム無効化を行う。近く登場してくるＤ
ＶＤ再生装置は、種々のメディア型式間の差異を区別す
ることができると期待される。
【００１５】もしメディア型式が（音楽ＣＤ又はＣＤ
ＲＯＭにおけるような）初期の型式のものであると判定
されるならば、ＤＶＤ再生装置／ＴＩＲＩＳ読取り装置
は、もちろんＭＰＥＧデータ流をデコードしなくて済む
であろう。従って、このような材料の通常再生を行わせ
るであろう。これに代わり、元からのかつ純正の非ＴＩ
ＲＩＳ暗号ＤＶＤメディア（すなわち、ＴＩＲＩＳ暗号
で暗号化された材料になる前に循環中のもの）を扱う場
合、再生装置／読取り装置は、初期型式を含んだＤＶＤ
埋込み日付コードを検出しかつ限定された数の再生アク
セスを容認するであろう。（トランスポンダ使用者ビッ

号に応答して前記質問器へコード語と、前記所定メディ
ア素子に関連した所定アドレスとを含むトランスポンダ
応答信号を送信する前記取り付けるステッブと、トラン
スポンダ応答信号を受信しかつ前記メディア再生装置へ
前記所定アドレスを供給するステップと、前記所定アド
レスにおいて前記データ語を読み取るステップと、前記
データ語と前記コード語とを比較しかつ前記データ語と
前記コード語との整合の際に前記メディア素子の再生又
は使用を許可するステップとを含む方法。
【００２０】（２） 第１項記載の方法において、前記
コード語と前記所定アドレスとが製造レベルにおいて前
記トランスポンダメモリ内へプログラムされる方法。
【００２１】（３） 第１項記載の方法において、前記
コード語と前記所定アドレスとが顧客レベルにおいて前
記トランスポンダメモリ内へプログラムされる方法。
【００２２】（４） 第１項記載の方法において、前記
コード語と前記所定アドレスとのうちの少なくとも１つ
が前記トランスポンダによって暗号化される方法。
【００２３】（５） 第２項記載の方法において、前記
コード語と前記データ語との前記比較が同じ集積回路内
で遂行される方法。
【００２４】（６） 第１項記載の方法において、前記
比較がルックアップテエーブルを通して達成される方
法。
【００２５】（７） 第１項記載の方法において、前記
比較が直接行われる方法。
【００２６】（８） 第１項記載の方法において、前記
比較がアルゴリズムを通して遂行される方法。
【００２７】（９） 本発明は、「ＴＩＲＩＳ」トラン
スポンダ（又は他のＲＦ又はＩＲ又はバーコード又はそ
の他の識別装置）を提案されたＤＶＤディスクの中心内
に物理的に取り付ける又は埋め込むことを含む。トラン
スポンダのメモリ内で、所定アドレス及びコード語の両
方がメディア製品の製造レベルにおいて前記トランスポ
ンダ内へ前処理プログラムされる。メディア再生装置
は、前記ディスクを再生する機能性を含むだけでなく、
また質問信号を前記トランスポンダへ送信し、次いて前
記トランスポンダからの応答信号を受信する機能性も含
む。したがって、いったんディスクがメディア再生装置
に入力されると、前記メディア再生装置の質問部分が前
記ディスク内に配置された前記トランスポンダへ質問信
号を送信する。それゆえ、質問信号でいったん付勢され
ると、前記トランスポンダは、所定アドレスにアクセス
してかつ前記トランスポンダポンダのメモリからコード
語を読み取る。次いで、前記トランスポンダは、前記ア

内に配置された質問器へ送信し、かつ前記メディア再生
装置が前記ディスク上の特定アドレス位置にアクセスす
る。前記メディア再生装置は、読み取られたデータ語と
受信されたコード語との間に整合がある場合に限り再生
する。前記比較は、前記メディア再生装置の質問部分内
又は前記メディア再生装置自体内で起こることができ
る。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 著作権付き資料のみがいかなるディジタ
    ルメディアシステムにおいても再生可能又は使用可能て
    あることを保証する方法であって、 トランスポンダへ質問信号を送信し、応答の際にトラン
    スポンダ応答信号を受信し、かつメディア素子上のデー
    タ語を読み取るメディア再生装置と共に高周波質問器を
    集積するステップと、 所定メディア素子にトランスポンダを取り付けるステッ
    プであって、前記トランスポンダが前記質問信号に応答
    して前記質問器へコード語と、前記所定メディア素子に
    関連した所定アドレスとを含むトランスポンダ応答信号
    を送信する前記取り付けるステップと、 トランスポンダ応答信号を受信しかつ前記メディア再生
    装置へ前記所定アドレスを供給するステップと、 前記所定アドレスにおいて前記データ語を読み取るステ
    ップと、 前記データ語と前記コード語とを比較しかつ前記データ
    語と前記コード語との整合の際に前記メディア素子の再
    生又は使用を許可するステップとを含む方法。
